Dark rain hammered the conservatory roof as he watched in awe. The howling wind whipped the trees into a frenzy, as a shiver ran down his spine. The lights had flickered out 10 minutes before in a shower of sparks as the powerline came down.
From the grate in the wall he heard a rustling and shuffling sound, then something moaning, echoing from below. Lightning cleaved the sky, casting darting shadows, as he slowly made his way through the house to the cellar door.
He crept down the stairs and saw her, crouched by some boxes. She held a lighter to see by, as she looked for candles. His lips pulled back, baring sharpened teeth as he glided towards her.
Nice work – I like the semi-surprise ending.
